| The B-17G manuals were very different from
the B-17F manuals as many changes were made to the
presentation. These are not just "warmed-over"
B-17F manuals! A quick look to compare the tables of
contents will reveal an entirely new ordering, new
topics, etc. Naturally some material in the T.O.s / A.N.s
will be repeated but that is to be expected. All the pages are in image format - they have not been reformatted or character recognized. They are high resolution scans and the color plates are reproduced in 256-color. The black & white scans are done in 16-level grayscale to help preserve the image of the original while keeping file size manageable. No "lossy" compression methods such as JPEG were used. The E&M was scanned at 300 dpi for this manual set as the photos were printed at a higher density screen and higher resolution was necessary to capture the detail. (See Printing and Viewing Considerations for more information.) Prints from the E&M are coming out absolutely beautiful on an HP-722 inkjet printer - much better than on a 300 dpi laser. I have to recommend ink jets for printing these as even though they are slow, the quality is astounding! They look almost as good as the original. Write me and I'll send a sample page so you can see the quality for yourself! There is an overall cast to the pages because they were yellowed a bit from age. There are also various notes penned & pencilled in a few locations which I have not edited out. All pages were removed from the binder and scanned completely flat and so are not distorted near the binding. Some people charge over $100 for photocopied versions of just one of these manuals - and the quality is not anywhere close to what you get from printing your own version - over and over if you want to. Use a color inkjet and you get all the color keys that photocopies lose - unless they are even more expensive *color* photocopies! All files have been converted to Adobe Acrobat® format and are available on 2 CD-ROMs with the free-distribution reader. USPS Priority Mail shipping is already included in the $15.00 sale price. How to Order. This CD set contains rare and hard to find diagrams, procedures, explanations, pictures and charts. If you are interested in the B-17 Flying Fortress, you won't find more technical information anywhere else. Please note: Some material from the B-17F CDs is duplicated on the B-17G CDs. The PTM is the same document though is reproduced in color on the B-17G CDs and was scanned from an original. It is much nicer with the color highlights though only one figure was truly unreadable and all black on the F model CDs. In this set you can see every detail and the one figure *is* readable this time! Also note that the engine manuals are exactly the same files as on the F version CDs. This was so the G version can stand alone. Due to the high resolution scanning of the E&M, and the inclusion of color in the PTM, there was not enough space to include photos or sounds as were included with the B-17F CDs. |
