File Printing & Viewing Considerations
| Printing: Adobe Acrobat®
allows printing of individual pages or the entire
manuals. On a 600 dpi laser, ink jet or color printer
they look great. As these are graphics images and not
straight text, there are some considerations for
printing. Printers used must be able to reproduce the
shading to the pages without resolution affecting the
text or photographs. These images will even print nicely
on a 300 dpi printer but special software such as Zenographics SuperPrint® is necessary to
prepare the images for best printing. Dithering options
such as Floyd-Steinberg 4-Way Dither produce excellent
results on 300 dpi printers. Some people also experience software interactions between Acrobat and their printer & printer drivers such that pages are printed at 2/3 actual size. This occurs on pages scanned at 200 dpi yet the software insists on printing the page at 300 dpi. Zenographics SuperPrint can fix this problem in some cases though not all. Adobe has been notified of this issue and as yet there is no perfect workaround or software fix. One method to increase the print size is to set print quality in Acrobat's Print Setup menu to 150 dpi instead of the default 300 dpi value. This will print the pages full-size but has the drawback of reducing print quality. Try both methods and see which produces the best results on your system and printer. Manuals and pages scanned at 300 dpi (such as the B-17G E&M) will print full-size. Viewing: You can use the zoom feature of Acrobat® to zoom in close to see the detail. Please note that the high resolution scans mean large image file sizes. On slower computers you will notice a delay in loading each page. Also, for those with low resolution monitors (i.e. 640 x 480), you will have to zoom in fairly far to read the text. This is an unavoidable side effect to capturing all the detail in the images. Those viewing in 1024x768 or higher resolutions will not have this difficulty and pages zoomed to fit the sides will be easily readable. |
